Nasal Trauma and Fractures
Nasal fractures are the most common fractures encountered of the face. The nasal bones are important to maintain straightness of the nose and when fractured, the deviation created can be both cosmetically disfiguring and can have an impact on nasal breathing. Addressing the broken nose quickly is important because a simple reduction of the fracture can be done within the first 2 weeks to restore the pre-fracture position of the nasal bones before healing sets them in place.
The procedure is done in the office with local anesthesia or in the operating room under general anesthesia. A cast is placed for 7 days and there should be no contact sports for 6 weeks.
